ADULT EDUCATION OFFERINGS - Fall 2011

Blessed are you who hear the word of God and keep it.
Immanuel has many opportunities for adults to grow in knowing the Lord better in addition to the weekly church services. Listed below are offerings that are open to everyone, members of the church, members of another church, or a member of no church at the current time. Some classes meet every week, some meet once a month. Pick the class (es) that match with your schedule and your interests. Sign up forms will be available in the coming weeks.

  1. The Spirituality of the Cross. – In this study, author Gene Veith explores and presents a true understanding of justification by faith, the means of grace, vocation, theology of the cross, the two kingdoms, worship, and the church. Study meets weekly. Room 255 Led by Bill Harder
  1. The Book of Acts – The Gospel Throughout the World This particular study would be for those looking to dig a little deeper into how the church was formed, and the incredible works the Holy Spirit performed by enabling the Apostle’s to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ throughout the world. We will be utilizing the book “God’s Word for Today: ACTS – The Gospel throughout the World”. This is a ten session booklet that will most likely take us beyond ten weeks. Our purpose to go a pace that allows us to gain greater insights.

  1. A Study on the Incarnation – begins in mid Nov. Discover the greatest mystery on earth—the incarnation of Jesus Christ as God and man. It is a mystery too deep for the human mind to understand fully, yet it has enormous practical value for the Christian life. A Study of the Incarnation will help open up the wonder of the incarnation to you, that you may draw strength for your faith and daily life. Topics include; 1.) The Presence of God 2.) Why God Became a Man 3.) Why Not an Angel 4.) Where the Lord May Be Found

  1. “Divin’ In” to the Scripture concentrates on the sermon text of the day. This Bible Study is designed to help you dive a little deeper into the Word by complementing what you have been fed in worship.

  1. Abundant Grace – begins on Nov 13th. – Jesus tells us in John 10:10 that He has come so that we may have life and that we may have Abundant Life. Pastor Tom and Pastor Warren will be creating video teachings that are available online and for classes / groups to utilize. These bible studies emphasize this important of God’s Abundant Grace to us. In this 3 session study we will explore, 1.) Abundant Living 2.) Abundant Giving 3.) Abundant Thanks

5:00 – 7:00 PM

  1. Working Women’s Bible Study– The Heart of Jesus – Women in the Gospel of Luke.” This Small Group meets on the 2nd & 4th Sunday of the month. Contact Karen Bauder for more information.

  1. Koenemann Small Group – The Gospel of Mark. This group is open to all and will be studying various selected bible studies throughout the year that are chosen by the group. The group meets at the Koenemann residence every other week, where there is fine hospitality, fellowship, and an enriching time spent in the Word. Please contact Ruth or Carl Koenemann if you are interested in joining this small group.

6:45 – 8:00 PM

  1. Home Bible Study – Meets every three weeks at alternate homes. Now studying the Gospel of John. Men and women invited, couples or singles. Contact Steve or Marilyn Kosmella for more information. Meets in couples home on a rotational basis Group Led

  1. Couple’s Bible Study – The Bible on Trial: Beyond a Reasonable Doubt – Meets on the 2nd Sunday of the month. The Bible on Trial: Beyond a Reasonable Doubt from Lutheran Hour Ministries takes a unique look at the Bible and presents facts about the most widely circulated book in history. Internationally recognized experts examine ancient texts, archaeological findings and use “Standards of Reliability” to assess the integrity and significance
    of this collection of ancient texts. The Bible on Trial invites viewers to be the jury in this case.

  1. Mugs, Munchies, and Matthew (a Women’s Bible Study) – Matthew Part 1 covers the first 13 chapters of Matthew. The nine-session study includes:
    · Preparing to Study Matthew

    · Proclaiming That the Kingdom Is at Hand
    · Teaching Kingdom Living
    · Seeking Only His Kingdom
    · Presenting Jesus as Messiah through His Miracles

    · Unlocking Secrets of the Kingdom through Parables

As you progress through this 9-session study, you will deepen your understanding of who Jesus is, and what He has done for you.

This study is part of the LifeLight Bible study series of in-depth studies of Bible books. The goal of LifeLight is that through a regular program of in-depth personal and group study of Scripture, more and more Christian adults may grow in their personal faith in Jesus Christ.

  1. NEW MEMBER CLASS (Completing on 10/25/11) – Interested in becoming a member at Immanuel? Come and join our newly formatted New Member Classes. Class includes online video learning opportunities, and bi-weekly New Member Cafe’s designed to create fellowship and dialogue on previous material taught online, as well as opportunity to meet various staff and lay leaders of the church.   1. Lutheranism 101 – examines Lutheran beliefs and heritage in a fresh way. If you are a lifelong Lutheran searching for more information or new to Lutheranism looking to understand what we believe, this book will be your guide. It is written in an easy-to-read conversational style with short articles, side-bar features, and some humor. Lutheranism 101 helps create a solid foundation of reference upon which a lifetime of sound teaching can be built.

Explore the basics of Lutheran theology by digging into the history of Lutheranism and making connections between what Lutherans believe and what Lutherans do.

  1. Overcoming Doubt – begins Nov. 9th. Even though Christians believe, Christians also doubt. We can let doubt run us away from our Lord. Or, assured of His grace, we can run to Him with our doubts and grow stronger in faith. This course speaks, through God’s Word, to some of humankind’s common doubts about Him. Topics include; 1.) Is There Really a God? 2.) Is God Really Good? 3.) Can I know God? 4.) Does God Know Me?

  1. Men’s Bible Study meets every Saturday in Discipleship Center The group is currently studying The Gospel of Matthew. Discipleship Center Led by Bill Harder

7:30 am – 9:00 am

  1. The Prayer Group meets first Saturday of every month. Next meeting is on 9/10/11, because of Labor Day Weekend. They sing, study scripture and pray. They begin by exploring a word in the Bible like faith, perseverance, etc. and find Bible passages that support that word. After searching the scriptures each member prays for their particular needs, thanksgivings, and supplications.
